Nigel Pickett – CEO and Senior Business, Technical, & Innovation Advisor

An experienced innovative leader, operations, project and change director, Nigel is qualified in mechanical and production engineering. He joined the National Coal Board/ British Coal working initially in mechanical engineering on surface and underground installations.

Nigel trained in mineral process engineering becoming a Process Plant Manager and used his skills to conceptually lead, innovate and implement a new fines handling process at the plant. He then moved into private coal research leading a development project for the Cold Pelletisation of fine coal. He changed direction when he moved into the timber processing sector, managing a business restructuring turnaround, conceiving the innovative development & implementation of a computer controlled pressurised timber treatment process and enhanced business operations.

In the early 1990’s Nigel left to attend Cardiff University studying business administration at master’s level. He then became an international management consultant following which he both worked on and led teams in BPR, BPI and Change Management, business and engineering turnaround projects, for leading Global and Multi-national & National companies, in multiple business sectors. The sectors included, Banking (Bank Of Ireland) Finance and Pensions (Aviva , Clerical Medical), Food (Premier Food), IT (Computacenter), Railways (Swedish Rail Maintenance), North Sea Oil and Gas Offshore exploration & Production platforms (Shell , Marathon), Oil Refining in Saudi Arabia (Shell-Saudi Aramco), and Storage & Distribution centres in Abu Dhabi, Mining (multiple Co’s) , and Cement production in the Philippines and Sri Lanka (Alsons-Holdcim), all in multiple countries and cultures.

In 2009, he became a Principal Consultant in the Due Diligence Group, of SRK Consulting, the leading independent global mining consultancy, At SRK UK, he led technical and business projects on placer, open pit and underground mines on platinum, diamonds, coal, lignite and phosphate deposits. He has been the Project Director for Feasibility and Thar Coal Pricing Model Studies for mining including Thar Block 2 Sindh Engro in Pakistan’s first major open pit lignite mine and Ma’aden’s Uum Waal Phosphate Project in Saudi Arabia, an Innovation Audit on Alrosa (World leading in diamond mining) for the Russian Government, and Business and Technical improvement projects in Russia, including Russian Platinum. In 2014, he was co-founder and executive director of Legacy Hill Resources, responsible for mining processes & technology. He led the conceptual development of innovative process technology, underpinning the Groups business strategy, providing thought leadership and authoring a patent for the development of an innovative new cold pelleting process that has the effect of reducing carbon emissions in steel making. Nigel stepped down from the board in 2018 to pursue other interests but continues to advise companies in both sectors.

From his experiences in third world countries, Nigel has developed a long-time interest in people focused health care and he is now CEO of medical start up, MPM Health Limited based in Wales. The company works with partners on precision-based medicine through innovative medical technologies, to provide innovative patient-centric practice, to patients to control treatment closer to, or at, home. The company is currently negotiating with international companies that hold IP aligned to MPM’s vision for remote health care at home and to hold commercial rights for the right to use the technology in the “Celtic Countries” including strategic and operational support for cutting-edge mental health and genetic counselling. MPM shareholders hold strategic equity stakes in aligned players in the health sector, including an agreement to utilise SiGenex Next Generation DNA Automated Sequencing Technology.

Nigel is a Chartered Manager & Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and holds an MBA from Cardiff Business School.

Dr Luke Midgley – Head of Research, Development and Innovation

Luke is a Director and our Head of Research, Development and Innovation. Most recently Luke has worked for Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) as the Principal Public Health Researcher, leading on the COVID-19 response, writing the reducing health inequalities action plan, and leading a team applying for a £5m NIHR grant for the creation of a centre of excellence in health determinants research between CTMUHB, Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr County Borough Councils, Cardiff University and Public Health Wales. Luke is also a senior lecturer and course leader for the population health workstreams at University of South Wales.

Dr Midgley qualified in 2019 with a PhD in Public Health from Cardiff University School of Medicine and Social Sciences. His principal research area involved reducing health inequalities and improving health outcomes of children and young people, through school-based research. His PhD focussed specifically on substance misuse policy and the translation of policy from Welsh Government to schools. Prior to his PhD, Luke worked in research across Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, delivering clinical research for the NIHR North London Hub.

Since joining MPM Health, Luke has developed strong links with international innovators and brought international collaboration and the very best of international innovation to Wales. Luke’s knowledge and expertise around Welsh Government policy allows business to adapt and talk to current policy directions. The work that Luke has been involved in will bring the very best of clinical artificial intelligence for rapid oncology diagnosis to Wales, for the benefit of Welsh NHS service delivery and Welsh people. Furthermore, precision medicine is accelerating at a rapid pace and novel prototypes have been introduced to Wales through MPM Health, and Luke is already working with Welsh Government to provide the very best and very latest rapid genetic screening for patient benefit in Wales.

Simon Pickett – Head of Supply Chain and Administration

Simon is a Director and responsible for Supply Chain and Administration; he brings over twenty years of experience in the Supply Chain field, mainly through the Electronics sector but also with experience in the Automotive sector.

Simon brings a skill set covering a diverse range of both products and services from procurement through to customer delivery from business facing and project team perspectives. Simon is well versed in working with multi-disciplinary teams across multiple time zones with team members from many different cultural backgrounds.

Whilst in the procurement field Simon has worked with automotive component suppliers from across Europe and has worked with electronics component suppliers from across Europe and Asia, such as ST Micro, Broadcom and Seagate. In the planning field Simon dealt with a number of contract manufacturers in a number of locations, such as Celestica Malaysia, Flextronics Hungary, China and India, Jabil Hungary/Ukraine and India, and Foxconn China and Vietnam.

In the logistics space Simon has worked with Norbert Dentressangle in the UK, DHL Global Supply Chain in Hungary and FM Logistic in Poland.

Simon has extensive experience using SAP MM and is a Kinaxis:RapidResponse administrator providing support to the Customer Service, Business Operations, Logistics, NPI, Sales, Post-Sales and Finance teams.

Simon holds a BA (Hons) in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.

Stephen Pickett – Non-Executive Director

Stephen is our Non-Executive Director and is responsible for guiding the Board of Directors on vision, business strategy and direction.

He is currently Head of Technology Solutions at Maximus UK and was previously Chief Technology Officer and Board Director at Connect Assist. He has extensive experience in business strategy and Technology, covering all areas including software development, project management, infrastructure, telephony, architecture and more.

Stephen has worked with many of the UKs top commercial brands and has extensive experience working with the third sector. He has previously been a Trustee of the Connect Assist Employee Benefit Trust and is currently an Executive Committee member of the Maximus Foundation.
